We are actively seeking a postdoctoral fellow! Please contact Dr. Yokom if interested
We have launched a first-year undergraduate research program supported by the Office of Undergraduate Research on campus!
This program called Biophysics First-Year Learning and Research Experience (BioFLARE for short), focuses on introducing academic research early to new students. BioFLARE includes research groups across 5 departments with general interested in biophysical approaches. Students are encouraged to apply leading into their first semester at Mizzou.
Currently applications are due by Sept 1st 2026!
Hannah Busso
Alaina Rottinghaus

Ava Obenauer
Erin Weiland - Cohort 2024 Alumni!
Cohort 2025 News
We welcomed five studnets into BioFLARE in Fall 2025. Throughout the fall and sping semesters student we met weekly about the soft skills needed to succeed in research. BioFLARE studnets had meetings with other undergradautes researcher, practiced their poster presentation skills and develop best practices for keeping a notebook and much more!
In April 2026 - Our 2025 BioFLARE cohort successfully presented their research projects at Show Me Research Week 2026. Congratulations to Abi, Hannah, Ava, Natalie and Alaina! (Also guest appreance from Cohort 2024 Alumni Erin!)
Bonus - Met Gala wrap up meeting to end the program on Cinco de Mayo
“Biophysics is the field that applies the theories and methods of physics to understand how biological systems work. Biophysics has been critical to understanding the mechanics of how the molecules of life are made, how different parts of a cell move and function, and how complex systems in our bodies—the brain, circulation, immune system, and others— work. Biophysics is a vibrant scientific field where scientists from many fields including math, chemistry, physics, engineering, pharmacology, and materials sciences, use their skills to explore and develop new tools for understanding how biology—all life—works.” -Biophysical Society
