Molecular Biology and Biochemistry -  Our foundation is rooted in understanding the molecules which govern life as we know it (and learning what we dont know). This is fundamentally connected to molecular biology and using in vitro purification techniques to isolate autophagy components to investigate function.

Structural Biology-  Resolving biological molecules via cryo electron microcopy, electron tomography and x-ray crystallography give a 'seeing is believing' feel to understanding how biological molecules directly interact to perform cellular functions including signaling, scaffolds and remodeling of membranes.

Our group is pioneering cryo FIB-SEM techniques to expanded the scale of structural biology we can perform. This includes using the Aquilos 2 and Thunder systems at the NextGen Precision health Institute

Cell Biology- We are expanding into cell biological assays to monitor autophagy. Our goal is to explore the interactions between microbial effector proteins and autophagy fusion machinery.

We are actively looking for researchers experienced in cell biology or interested in learning it!
